THE JOURNEY

 STARTS WITH YOU

Shifu Zuan

In traditional wisdom, new year marks a threshold of transformation.
It is a time to pause, turn inward, and listen quietly to what wishes to be released and what is waiting to bloom.

EXPERIENCE A DIFFERENT WAY

A place and practice to slow down, reconnect and remember what is already there.

A gentle homecoming to yourself

Only in profound stillness, motion is born.

Shifu Zuan invites you to gather in practice for this transition from one lunar year into the next. In traditional wisdom, this marks a threshold of transformation. It is a time to pause, turn inward, and listen quietly to what wishes to be released and what is waiting to bloom.

Too often, we rush into a new year carrying the tensions, mental noise, and burdens of the past year. In this special Chinese New Year workshop, Shifu Zuan offers a space to step out of constant doing into pure being - learning how to let the old year fall away naturally without resistance, and how to welcome the new year with clarity, openheartedness, and presence.

YEAR OF THE GOAT

In Chinese astrology, the Year of the Goat (or Ram/Sheep) brings a distinct and precious energy to our practice. Characterized by peace, gentleness, creativity, and deep compassion, the Goat year reminds us that true strength does not come from pushing or forcing, but from soft resilience and inner balance.

During the workshop, we will learn how to embody the unique qualities of the Goat year:

Shifting from Effort into Ease

Softening rigid habits and replacing strain with ease by surrendering and allowing natural flow.

Opening the Heart Center

Cultivating genuine kindness for ourselves and those around us.

Radiating Peaceful Harmony

Discovering deep inner quiet that naturally extends into daily life.

The Practice: Grounding through Zhan Zhuang (Standing Practice)

Before we learn how to walk, we must learn how to stand.

At the heart of this Workshop is the foundational cultivation of Zhan Zhuang (Standing Posture Practice). In profound stillness, motion is born. By standing rooted like a tree, we bring our awareness down from the busy mind into our body.

Releasing Old Tensions

Identify and sink accumulated physical, emotional, and mental holding patterns directly into the earth.

Building Deep Rootedness

Cultivate physical alignment, balance, and centered presence so you remain stable regardless of external chaos.

Awakening Full-Body Connectivity

Harmonize breath, body structure, and internal energy flow (Qi) to step into the new year fully restored.

TaiJi Application: Form

For TaiJi practitioners, Zhan Zhuang is essential. It provides the quiet foundation without which dynamic movement loses its root and internal power. By learning to settle in posture, we cultivate the deep alignment and effortless stability that allows every TaiJi form to flow naturally from a centered, grounded core.

On Tuesday and Thursday afternoons, optional TaiJi classes are offered. Experienced practitioners will focus on integrating the standing practice into the WuMa Taiji Slow Form, while newcomers will learn the Preparation TaiJi Form 1 and discover how to apply standing principles.

The New Year Temple Ceremony

To bring our journey full circle, we gather for a Chinese New Year Temple Ceremony led by Shifu Zuan, honoring the threshold between what was and what is yet to come. Releasing the old, making incense and light offerings for the new year and receiving blessings for our intentions.

Purification & Release

A sacred ritual to write down and burn old patterns, obstacles, and heavy energies from the past year.

Incense & Light Offerings

Dedicating light and intentions for health, peace, wisdom, and freedom in the coming cycle.

Blessing of Intentions

Aligning our personal intentions (Yi) with the greater natural harmony, establishing a clear heart-centered direction for the year ahead.

What You Will Experience

Whether you long for a moment to rest, a deeper connection to your QiGong practice, or a meaningful way to step into the Year of the Goat, this workshop offers a gentle homecoming to yourself.

DAY 1 ARRIVE & BREATHE

Leaving the old rhythm behind.

The first day is about arriving — not only at JourneyIntoOneself Space, but also in your own body. We slow down and begin to turn our awareness inwards. We start noticing what we have been carrying: tension, tiredness, constant thinking, unfinished business. We gently begin to let go.

The question of the day: What of the past year do I wish to leave behind?

DAY 2 GROUND & LET GO

Finding physical stability and connection to the Earth.

Once we have begun to release tension, we look closely at how we stand. We explore the feet, legs, posture, and alignment, learning how to connect down into the ground without holding unnecessary rigidity. Through standing practice, we learn to receive support rather than constantly holding ourselves up. We learn how to let go of control.

The question of the day: Where am I holding myself up instead of allowing support?

DAY 3 RESTORE AND RECEIVE

Creating space for balance.

Once we have slowed down, we can begin to restore. The third day goes deeper into practice, nature and stillness. We explore grounding, alignment, breath and the relationship between effort and ease. Rather than constantly trying to do something, we practice receiving: the support of the ground, the breath, nature, stillness and the present moment.

The question of the day: How to restore oneself and why is it important?

DAY 4 FLOW & STILLNESS

Discovering inner harmony.

Midway through the journey, the practice becomes smoother as the body learns to find harmony in discomfort. We explore the balance of movement in stillness— discovering how stillness can exist within motion, and motion within stillness.

The question of the day: Can I remain still inside while everything around me moves?

DAY 5 LISTEN & DEEPEN

Resting in one’s centre.

As the mind settles deeper, practice shifts to deeper inner listening and subtle perception. Through guided meditation we listen to what the body and spirit truly need.

The question of the day: What do I wish to cultivate into the new year?

DAY 6 INTENTION SETTING & TEMPLE CEREMONY

Taking the balance with you.

On the final day, the focus turns toward integration. We gather at the temple and support the weeks practice with a ceremony to carry us into the new year in harmony.

The question of the day: What is ready to be released, what is ready to be cultivated?

Team JIO

Team JIO

Team JIO are a handful of students who have spent six years or longer in a dedicated practice with Shifu Zuan and have been accepted as his Inner Students. They have been part of an “Assistant Program” for two years and have completed their Instructors Training.

They are building up their own teaching and are invited to take care of private classes, online classes, Team Workshops and Team Retreats in the name of JIO. They take different roles in the organisation and are asked to fulfill tasks based on their skills.

They cultivate the virtues of this teaching and support the ones that join this journey with care and compassion. Guiding by example, from outside in, they are the heart of this teaching.
