4 SEASONS. 2 PATHS. 1 JOURNEY.

An online year of practice with Shifu Zuan
Discovering Oneself  ·  Transforming Oneself

Shifu Zuan and students

This is the journey into oneself — not a journey towards becoming someone else, but a gradual return to what is already present.

EXPERIENCE A DIFFERENT WAY

A year-long journey into the body, into awareness and into everyday life.

AT YOUR OWN PACE

Shifu Zuan and students

Across four seasons, Shifu Zuan invites you to explore two complementary paths of practice. One begins with the questions and principles of life and gradually brings them into the body. The other begins with direct physical experience and brings that understanding back into everyday life.

The practice is not about achieving something or becoming someone else. It is about learning to listen again — to the body, to ourselves and to what is naturally present.

The programme is designed to meet modern life as it is, with its demands, distractions and challenges. The invitation is not to escape everyday life, but to meet it with greater awareness, simplicity and presence.

For Shifu Zuan, the practice is about learning to listen again — to the body, to ourselves and to what is already present.

With Shifu Zuan’s guidance and the support of Ema (Team JIO Instructor) we hold this space as an invitation to practice, explore and return to what is naturally present.

We hope this becomes something you can bring into your everyday life — something you can return to, season after season, at your own pace.

A Practice for Everyday Life

Perhaps the most important part of this journey is not what we add, but what we begin to notice.

A little more space. A little more listening. A different way of meeting the body, ourselves and the life around us.

The practice does not end when the session ends. It continues in the way we stand, move, breathe, respond and meet the everyday.

This is the journey into oneself that Shifu Zuan invites us to explore — not a journey towards becoming someone else, but a gradual return to what is already present.

Come as you are. Begin where you are.

We look forward to practicing together.

The Journey

You choose your own pace and level of commitment. You can join individual workshops, follow one season, or walk the full journey through the year.

Start when it feels right. The programme follows the rhythm of the seasons, but there is no fixed starting point. You can join at the beginning of any season and begin your practice there.

The seasonal cycle repeats each year, so there is no need to complete the programme in one continuous run. You can return to a season, continue into the next, or begin again whenever the cycle comes around.

Two Paths. One Journey

The two paths can be experienced independently. Together, they offer two perspectives on the same journey: one begins with the questions of life and moves towards the body; the other begins with the intelligence of the body and brings the understanding back into life.

Discovering Oneself: 7 Gates

Life to Body

The 7 Gates Teaching begins with life. It explores fundamental principles of human experience — Awareness, Resistance, Letting Go, Impermanence, Stillness, Intention and Embodiment — and gradually brings these principles into the body and into practice.

Transforming Oneself: Natural Intelligence

Body to Life

Natural Intelligence begins with the body. Through direct TaiJi QiGong practice, we explore ground, release, openness, alignment, connection, movement and flow. From this physical experience, we discover how these principles can influence the way we meet everyday life.

The 7 Gates

Shifu Zuan

Awareness — See Yourself

Connect with awareness and learn to perceive yourself more clearly.

Resistance — Stop Fighting Reality

Recognise resistance in the body and explore what changes when you stop fighting what is already here.

Letting Go — Release Control

Notice what you are holding — physically, emotionally and mentally — and explore the experience of letting go.

Impermanence — Everything Transforms

Recognise change as a natural part of life and learn to move through it with greater ease.

Stillness — Return to Silence

Quiet the mind and create space for simply being.

Intention — Move with Purpose

Explore the intentions that guide how you live, move and connect with the world.

Embodiment — Become the Way

Bring the practice into everyday life until it becomes something you live rather than something you do.

Natural Intelligence

Shifu Zuan

In a world where we increasingly rely on artificial intelligence, TaiJi QiGong invites us to remember another kind of intelligence: the natural intelligence already present within the body.

Tension, stress, habits and the demands of everyday life can make this intelligence difficult to feel. Through practice, we learn to listen to the body and create the conditions for greater openness, connection and natural movement.

In TaiJi QiGong, this natural intelligence is explored through Qi — the dynamic quality of movement, connection and aliveness within the body.

Principles of Natural Intelligence

Ground — Receive Support

Feel the ground and the weight of the body. Learn to receive support instead of constantly holding yourself up.

Release — Let Go of Holding

Recognise unnecessary tension and explore how the body can gradually release it.

Open — Create Space

Allow more space and openness to arise within the body.

Align — Organise Naturally

Allow the body to organise itself with less unnecessary effort.

Connect — Become One Body

Experience the connections throughout the whole body and begin to move as one connected system.

Move — Allow Natural Movement

Rather than forcing movement, allow it to arise and organise itself naturally.

Flow — Let Qi Move

Explore the natural flow of movement, Qi and aliveness throughout the body.

Deepening classes

with Ema

The workshops open the door. The Deepening Classes give us a chance to keep walking.

Between the weekend workshops with Shifu Zuan, Ema comes together  with you online to stay close to the practice — to repeat, explore, refine and gradually make the teachings part of your own experience.

These sessions are a space where you can take your time. A space to practice again, to ask questions, to notice what has changed, and to receive guidance when something feels unclear. Through repetition, the practice can begin to settle more deeply into the body and become something you can truly bring into everyday life.

Ema brings a warm and attentive approach to these sessions. With her experience in TaiJi QiGong, meditation, Meridian Yin Yoga, Chi Nei Tsang and other practices, she creates a space where there is room to explore at your own pace. She meets you where you are, pays attention to what you need and supports you in discovering how the practice can become your own.

Together, we revisit the practice of each season and explore their deeper qualities — through movement, stillness, reflection and the body. The intention is not to do more, but to become more familiar with what we have already discovered.

From knowing the practice, to experiencing it, to gradually living it.

The 4 Seasons

Each season offers a different quality of practice. This journey follows the natural rhythm of the year, using the qualities traditionally associated with each season as an invitation for reflection and practice.

There is no single beginning. You are welcome to join at the beginning of any season. Each season offers a complete point of entry into the practice, while the full cycle continues and repeats year after year. Join for one season, continue with the next, or return to the journey again and again.
